Communicate with your car from up to 300 feet away, wirelessly. You no longer need a laptop to access the diagnostic information — now you can do it from the comfort of your home PC, or even an an internet tablet.
´ELMScan 5 Wireless™´ uses the same proven technology behind the popular 'ELMScan 5' scan tool, and is backwards compatible with the host of diagnostic software written for its predecessor. The package includes everything you need, including the USB to Bluetooth adapter for your PC.
The Bluetooth module included with the scan tool is a Class 1 device, capable of line-of-sight communication at distances of up to 100 meters (300 ft), and the signal strength is sufficient to enable close range communication through walls and other obstacles.
´ELMScan 5 Wireless™´ is modular, and comes with a six foot OBD-II cable, which allows the device to be placed on the dashboard or the roof of the vehicle for best reception. When used in environments with an extremely high level of electromagnetic noise, the Bluetooth module can be unplugged, and replaced with a serial cable.
The microcontroller "ELM327" from ELM Electronics is the newest addition to the OBD
family, providing CAN (ISO 15765-4) support, as well as SAE J1850 PWM, SAE J1850
VPW, ISO 9141-2 and ISO 14230-4. ELM Electronics actually taken the best of
the ELM320, the ELM322, and the ELM323, improved on them and then added four
CAN protocols.
Just as with the other ICs, the Microcontroller "327" from ELM Electronics transparently
converts OBDII data into standard ASCII characters, allowing trouble codes and
operating parameters to be easily retrieved without the need for special software.
No knowledge of data formatting, error checking, bus initiation etc. is needed
either, as the microcontroller "327" from ELM Electronics handles all of it
for you. You don't even need to know what protocol your car 'speaks', as this
IC automatically detects that for you, too.
In addition to the protocols, we think that you will also enjoy some of the
enhancements. For example, the RS232 interface has been completely updated.
It is now a background task so it doesn't interfere with OBD receives, it has
a large data buffer to allow for fluctuations in the OBD data, and it offers
a second baud rate (115.200).
There are many other features (like a battery monitoring input) that you will
only learn about
if you download either the (5 page) ' Quick-Sheet
' or the full (35 page) ' Data-Sheet '.
